Hello!
My apologies to any die-hard Goldwingers out there who may wince at my question, but… my uncle wants to give me his 1983 GL 1100. It has 93000km on it (about 50k miles). My question is… I would like to convert this bike into a naked Goldwing cafe. I own a few bikes but am not very mechanical but I am game to try. What's involved? Any advice for a newbie? Trying to avoid being the stupid newbie and ask stuff like "It's just taking all the fairings and bags and chrome off, right?" but… is it? Right? Ha ha. :cover:
From the looks of this bike, I think I would want to:
- Change the pipes configuration
- Have the seat re-upholstered to be a bit lower and more of a cafe look
- Change the handlebars to be a straight config… would I need risers to reach the bars?
- Do I need to re-mount the headlight? What's under the fairing?
- Front signals… They are inside the fairing right now… buy aftermarket? Or could I dig the signals out of the fairing (likely not)
Any advice? What am I missing? Any links to any docs or other helpful online info?
NO insult intended to Goldwings. I think the engine in a naked configuration looks gorgeous and I'd be really interested in seeing how this bike would ride with less stuff on it.
Regards
