I would probably use CRC QD Electronic Ceaner instead of WD40. Available at Wal Mart, or any auto parts store. Even though it is not supposed tto be harmful to paint, I would keep it off anyway.
I have been using the DeOxit D5 for years for switches, controls, contacts and connectors. It's one of the few products that will dissolve the crud on terminals from leaking batteries without harming the connections.
Not cheap but a little goes a long way.
Never use WD-40 to try to clean a switch. It is not a cleaner. Use an electrical contact cleaner and there are plenty of them on the market. CRC is usually the go to for most people. Those switches have a lot of small parts in them so if you’re going to take the whole thing apart and clean, it be very careful not to lose anything.
I took reverse, cruise on off and resume switches completely apart cleaned up put new grease in them and they work great. Thank you for all the suggestions.
