Removable Tour Pack?

Evening All,,,

First,,, I am not a Goldwing owner,,,, yet. I started on an '97 HD Fatboy, then bought an '01 Ultra Classic once my daughter got big enough to ride with me. The tour pack and drivers backrest just created a nice comfortable cradle for her to sit back and enjoy riding. Now she has her own Suzuki Boulevard. Last month she left the nest and is a freshman in college. She took her Ford to college, but comes home to ride her bike with her Mom and I.

When she graduates college, she gets the Ultra. She's pretty excited as this is the bike she grew up on.

So now I am working through the decision of what will be my next bike when I give her the Harley. I am very curious about the Goldwings. While I did visit the local dealer and sit on a couple of 2023's, I don't see myself buying any new bike. I just don't relish the idea of spending thirty grand on a bike. So it will be used for me. Probably something around a mid 2000's model.

But,,,, I have a bum knee and like to ride without a tour pack most of the time. It's just simply easier for me to swing my leg over without the tour pack for average daily commuter travel on the bike. I do however want the tour pack for serious road trips.

Are there any Goldwing models that come with removable tour packs? Is it something that is easily modified?

Thanks for your time.

Jay

Welcome to the forum. Where are you from?

The F6B was sold without a trunk but a rack is available along with trunk install kits to make it removable. It was made 2013-2017. While it was available as two versions, it does not have all the features of the Goldwing.

The 2018 and follow base Goldwing comes without a trunk and Honda has a kit to add one if you want. Aftermarket kits are available as well.

I was unsure about the trunk when I got my first Goldwing. But, in all honesty, I got used to it immediately and use it all the time.

BTW, the Goldwing has a trunk. Harley has a tour pack. We'll forgive you this time. :)

Thanks! South Carolina

I believe I sat on one of those non touring versions at the dealership. As I recall there was about a $4000 difference in that and the touring version. Some differences I could see,, shorter windshield, no center stand. I really liked it for a daily driver, but I still would want to re-attach a ttrruunnkk (lol) for road trips. My bike is a daily driver probably +/- 200 days a year for fuel economy as my four wheeled "cager" is actually a six wheeled diesel dually.

So if I'm hearing y'all right,,, the basic model can be mod'd to accept a tou,,, um,, trunk,,,,,, but on the full touring version it is not detachable?

Welcome to you from Mississippi. Your last comment hits it on the head. Good luck on your search and hope you find the right bike that sings the "ride me" song to you.

You could shop for the 2018 base model, now used, and less expensive, and I’d bet already has a removable ttrrruuunk, LOL, or a luggage rack that would accommodate soft luggage (my choice- if I could afford newer). I too, would rather not have a permanent trunk attached (mine is an 05’), not for mounting or dismounting, but for weight reduction, and I like the look and feel of trunkless.

@GA1dad what I would recommend is hunt for a full tour model with the trunk. Many people have already purchased the kit to remove the trunk and be a “F6B” or the “Bagger” version. That way in about 30 minutes, you can swap out the trunk. The reason I say get the full tour model with the trunk, is there are options that came on those that are not included on the Bagger models. So you get more bang for your buck. Again that’s a suggestion though.
