I usually never feel comfortable with more than one bike, especially if they overlap in usage as most of mine have in the past. However, as long as I keep the trike kit on my GL1500, I expect no competition with my Harley Ultra Classic; with the trike kit, the 6cyl GW is primarily for 2-up and trailer pulling, while the Harley is primarily my daily ride.
In the first 40 years of riding, I never had more than one bike at a time. Never saw the need for more. After I retired I was back on a wing with my 84 Aspy. After my wife rode on the back of a friends triked out 1500 she thought that would be better for our long rides (500 or more miles). So I got a GW trike. Then I found a 72 Cb750k2. Having had my best riding memories on my 74 Cb750, I just had to have it. So there I was with now 3 bikes...Then crash goes the trike, I wasn't thrilled with the ride on a trike anyway, so compromised with the wife for the 98 1500 with the landing gear set up. She was fine with that. Could not justify two two wheel wings, so the 84 Aspy went on the "for sale" list. It is now spoken for and should be gone in a couple of weeks. That is assuming the guy comes up with the money as he stated. Should not be a problem, have done business with him before and made sales too him of double the amount we are talking here ($3500). So I'm still a happy camper. Have the 98 wing and the Cb750, two great rides.
I have owned a 2003 VTX 1800c for awhile now and I love it. For longer rides I bought a 2006 Gold Wing and discovered that I love it too. A completely different experience. My plan was to sell my VTX after I got the wing. But..........I cant sell it. Im keeping it for shorter rides and just because I love it. So my wife thinks Im nuts, and maybe I am, but I am now the proud owner of the 2 best bikes in the world today. I am a happy man. Can anyone relate?
I totally understand where you are coming from. I have 3 bikes and get a totally different experience from each. My wife says I don't need 3 bikes and I told her I know that. I need 4 but can make it with 3 . I have a 1500 Goldwing which I love for long trips, I have a Harley Softail that I also enjoy riding on local rides, a very beautiful bike, then last but certainly not least I have a 1800 VTX that I got a great deal on and bought just to resale but fell in love with because of its brute power. What a thrill to ride. I had no idea what I was getting when I bought it and then I started reading up on it and found that it is the most powerful twin cylinder on the planet. I just love motorcycles and I'm glad to have this badboy in my stall, although if I had to go to just one bike I would probably have to keep the old Goldwing because I take a lot of long trips and in my opinion you just can't beat a wing on the long haul. Although, that's just my opinion, I've never been on a big Harley dresser but I do know the dependability of a wing.
Well, my tell is a little different. My little honey of 43 years rides her own 2004 VTX1300S. She is actually a better rider than me. I just bought my 2015 Wing about 2 weeks ago. Keeping the 2005 Harley Electroglyde to take to Texas. We already have a 2005 1100 Yamaha over there we bought from a good friend last year. This is getting a little crazy but our logic is sound-----I think. Add in the Honda Foreman and the Kubota ATV for the farm and I think we have enough. At this point, none are for sale. However, with all the other engines I have to maintain it is getting a little tedious. I will do the 4000 on the Wing tomorrow and I am through for a while. Praise the Lord!!!!
I recently got back into riding two months ago, after being away from it for eight years. Two months ago, my wife asked if I’d rather buy a boat or a motorcycle. I thought I could get a lot more good out of a motorcycle, and said so. She said for me to get a newer one so I wouldn’t need to fix it up. The next day I bought a 2012 Goldwing. It was delivered 10 days later, and I was a happy guy.
Yesterday, she noticed that I was looking at motorcycles on eBay, specifically VTX1800s. She asked if I was shopping again, and I told her one of these would be different than my Goldwing, and she told me to just go ahead and buy one, so I did. I’ve still got to arrange shipment, but I’m ecstatic.
My 2001 GL1800 was run over by a woman and the tow truck driver dropped it off his truck. This was in Oct 2004. So, I bought a 2006 VTX1300 and loved it. Was contemplating putting an auto style cruise control on it and was really into that bike. Then my son-in-law came home with a 2008 Harley Sportster and that bike had more get up and go and that got me to thinking about a Sportster, so I bought a new 2012 and sold the VTX. But that sportster was a vibrator on wheels and on the long haul was tiring. So, a couple years later a friend went overseas and left me his GL1800 which I rode a few time but didn't want to take chances with his great bike, so I bought another Harley Dyna Low Rider, 103 eng. (1680cc), great bike but I totaled it last summer. But loving that GL just got me to shopping around for my own while I was still on crutches and in therapy learning to walk all over again. My 2005 is just great but, I still would like to have that VTX back. Having two bikes in the garage is an endeavor to dream about.

Like new mint seat and pass. pillion with strap, mounts and screws, stock license bracket, Brand new, unused tail bags with conchos and studs, service manual on CD...all cheap! Traded VTX in for a Goldwing.
I sold my VTX and still have the stock seats. I think they have less than a few hundred miles on them. Anyone want to make an offer? Not looking to make a killing, just don't want them to go to waste.
