I have a 1986 GL1200a. I also have a 1982 GL500I with the same problem: The side cover mount grommets are not holding adequately. I am unable to source replacements. Does anyone know of a great source for OLD Honda parts?

Go to Randakk's site and see what they have and you can call them for additional sourcing. Also join the Naked Wing Club. There is lots of help on that forum. All they deal with are old bikes.

If you can't find something that fits, try running a zip tie through them. It will keep them on, and provide some slippery grip for the bosses. Original parts would be ideal, but if you can't find them, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I used a trick on one of my bikes that swelled and softened the grommets.

I had thought of various efforts to improve or replace grommets. I think an easy enogh (fix) might be to enlarge the bulb on the end of mounting spike. That should keep it in the grommet hole better! I did check cyclemaxohio. I found nothing for this issue. I will look further into Randakk's and Naked Wing Club. Thanks, as always for your assistance Gentlemen!

By the way, Cantankerous, you did not mention what your softening trick is!

Well folks, amazingly, I found them in stalk at Partzilla. The title is the catch. For some reason, they are called "air cleaner grommets"! I also discovered that the Silverwing uses 4 out of the 6 same grommets. The lower two are dif. At least that appears to be what I found. I will know when I get them!

Download the “Babbitt’s” app. Or go to their website. They have the manuals for all kinds of motorcycles. You’ll probably find the part # you’re looking for, in there. Hope this helps!

Whatever you do, I strongly suggest staying away from Saber Cycle without reading some of the customer service stories across the WWW. Their website has tempted many a Goldwing owner. Caveat Emptor.

I was once told that brake fluid will swell rubber. I don't know how much or how many treatments would be needed. Any comments from others about this?

I have never heard that ,but it is a good preservative for rubber obviously and i have painted it on tires that i wrapped and wanted to keep a while attempting to keep it from drying out ..

So, this seams crazy to me. I have found at least one of my fork seals leaks. I am having a terrible time finding a rebuild kit, which contains seals and bushings. I guess that even IF I find this, I will still need to get any parts req. for the anti dive portion of forks seperately, from a dealer. Has anyone rebuilt there GL1200 forks with a suggestion as to where I might secure these parts? Thanks
