Valvoline Premium diesel oil

What exactly brought you to that decision??
Well about everything I have read people swear by Shell T diesel oil in 15-40
So since I have used Valvoline in my car for years I thought I would use it
Cant be much difference in the Valvoline and the Shell that EVERYONE waves about

i use castrol in the cars and trucks i owne and castrol bike oil in the bikes. two years ago i tried the castro 15w 40 in the 1200 wing. it lubed the engine but gear shifting was no better than with the old bike oil. on the next oil change i went back to castrol bike oil in the wing and smooth shifting at;east until i get around 5000 miles on the oil. as for the valvoline you can try it and if you don't like it you can go back to useing what you were before trying the 15w40

The 1st clue would be it's not diesel!
Not bashing here but, I don't understand not using oil or synthetic that is made for use in gasoline engines.

Hey Dawg,
the bike engine is different than a car gas engine with what is known as a wet clutch. Your bike oil is doing double duty in that is lubricates the internal parts but also is used to lube the clutch when you shift. Google 'wet clutch' if you want more details.
Specific Diesel oils have been tried on bikes as they "appear" to have the same or better qualities than standard bike oil or 'dinosar oil' and better priced.
I am not interested in an oil bashing or endorsement. I researched this some time ago to death as so many were using the Mobil 1 and Shell Rotella T in the Honda Sabre. Sure enough, my Sabre seems to like it better. It shifted quieter and easier. It is readily available at Wally mart and reasonably priced.
To Vol, welcome and good luck with your bike. As Buzz said, it's your bike and you can change later if you change your mind. You seem to be looking for approval and I just haven't heard of Valvoline used here or on other forums. Doesn't make it bad or wrong -just new to me and maybe uncommon to others here.
What I found interesting is the thought process that made you arrive at your decision. You researched for proven oils for quality and or better pricing. But then you took leap of faith assuming if Shell is good Valv is better-that is a stretch for me. I am not knocking it, someone was the first to use a synthetic or a diesel in a bike. I had to see and hear from many before I switched to Shell in the Sabre. I am not much of a risk taker on something this important nor want to blaze a new trail. (or maybe you are ahead of us and Valvoline is the new flavor of choice now). Again, no others here chiming in doesn't make it right or wrong.
As for my wing and other vehicles, I went to Amsoil this past year. I did all the vehicles about September and that keeps it simple for me to do them every fall. They all get 8 to 10k on them. I think that changing oil once a year and 2 times on the filter is less hassle and reasonably priced. It also cuts the risk of cross-threading the oil plug in half-just a phobia of mine on an aluminum case.
My wing seems to like it too. So now, I have 2 bikes with 2 answers but that's where I am now. I am probably going to sell the sabre this year so I guess it's Amsoil for me from now on.
The endless debate here and around means there are many answers.
Just find the one you like.. Good luck.

Can diesel or automotive type oil be used ? Maybe...
To be used in a M/C the oil MUST carry a SG or SG/SH Rating... Not SH, SJ, SL, SM, SN...... It MUST BE SG ... Not CH, CI, Etc
The oil MAY have one of the other Ratings ONLY if it has the JASO MA or MA 2 Rating.
Best choice is to use a Motorcycle Specific oil.
The Best isn't cheap
Cheap isn't The Best
