I have the side stand down when I put it ON the center stand, if you do it right, it isn't in the way...stand with your right side to the bike, right foot on the sidestand pad, and right hand on the passenger grab rail. then after rocking the bike slightly to confirm that you are on both center stand pads, push down with your foot while pulling up with your hand. Anyone can get the Wing (or any other bike) on a center stand this way.
Going DOWN, I always put the side stand up. For one good reason, I left it down one time and it came down on my foot! OUCH!
I take the bike off the center stand while standing next to it. Both hands on the bars, and push. I have control, and with my right hand on the brake I can stop the bike immediately. Then I put down the side stand.
When rolling the bike around, I put up the sidestand. I have to go over a ledge about 2" tall when going out of my garage, and the stand could hit on the edge and push the bike over to the right.
