I am still searching for my 1st goldwing. Many late 90's GL 1500 catch my eye. But if I do find a good 1800 in my price range. So, I am asking from owners of people who have had both a 1500 & GL1800. Which have more saddlebag and trunk room?

Thanks, for any info.

Bags on the 1500 have more volume than the 1800. I think the volume on the trunks is closer, but the 1800 might be a tad deeper. Our IS-33 helmets fit in the trunk (full visors), don't think they would have in the 1500, but I forget for sure. We had 3/4 lids with no visors then.

The saddle bag on the right side of the 1800 wing is very narrow due to the drive shaft. But the 1800 is so much more of a bike than the 1500 don't let that stop you. IF you need more space there are many ways to carry more stuff. Pack it rak, trunk bag or get a trailer. Actually we probably all take more stuff than we need when we go on vacation, remember there are laundry facilities along the way.

Like they say, take twice as much $ and 1/2 as many clothes.

Not only does the 1500 have more space in both the bags and the box, it is a much more comfortable bike to sit on for the rider, IMHO.
My feet are more "behind" my knees on my 1800 than on the 1500. Very uncomfortable in a short period of time!
I also found the "ride" of the 1500 more a "touring" ride than the 1800!
I refer to the 1800 as an "obese crotch rocket"!!!!!!
However, for me, now I've triked and have weight beating foot fairings, I have remove the rider pegs and all is well!

I owned a GL1500 for May-2000 to 2010, an GL1800 from May-2006 -still have it. I completed IBA rides on both. The GL1500 and 1800 luggage space is similar, maybe a bit more on GL1500. The machines are similar. The GL1800 is more modern, fuel injection, cruise control that works, ABS. Comfort-wise GL1500 is more comfortable. On the road the GL1800 is far more responsive, has a better alternator.

From my experience the 1500 has more room (storage and riding) but the 1800 is better for riding.

Once you ride both you will see that in reality there is no comparison. Sure they are both touring bikes but they are so different. The 1500 motor is mounted in rubber so even though both bikes have a flat 6 motor the 1500 is smoother going down the freeway, where the 1800 has a lot more power and will handle the twisties a lot better. The seating position on the 1800 is more aggressive than the 1500.
