Hey fellow riders....just killing time here so I thought I would give an update on my latest trips.

Left out of Modesto, Ca on 7/17 and headed for Redding for the night. This trip, my brother in law and sister accompanied my wife and I on their GL1800. We met in Lodi (they are from Sonora) for breakfast and then headed north. It started to get really warm around Chico so we all put on our cooling vests and they did as well as they could but it was 109* by the time we reached Redding at 13:30.

Went in the hotel pool for a while then had a great meal at Cattlemen's Steakhouse. On Monday, we hit the road about 08:30 headed north. Stopped in Yreka for breakfast and then continued up into Oregon. Took the 199 cutoff from I-5 and headed toward Crescent City. Stopped at Great Cats World Park just outside of Cave Junction, Oregon...very good display of big cats from around the world.

Got to Crescent City (where it was 61* and foggy) about 16:00. Great hotel but crappy meal at the local restaurant next door. Walked around a bit on the beach...the cool air felt great.

Tuesday morning we headed south on the 101, stopped for breakfast in Klamath and also saw the Trees of Mystery tourist stop. Continued on down to the redwoods and went on the Avenue of the Giants...I highly recommend this to anyone going through this area...awesome. Stopped at Founder's Grove and took a half mile hike through some old grove redwoods. One particular tree is called the Dyerville Giant. It fell in 1991 and it is incredible how big it is lying there.

At Leggett, we took the turn off for the Pacific Coast Highway...took this down to Fort Bragg and stayed the night there. Did a little sight seeing in town and ate at the local brew pub.

In the morning we continued south along the coast...spectacular views...until we hit Bodega Bay. Turned inland there to Santa Rosa and had dinner at a local pizza place and then we went to the new casino in town.

Thursday, we headed east through the wine country and stopped at the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield. I arrived home about 14:00 on Thursday and after putting everything away...realized it seems like every vacation...you get back home and it's like you never left. All in all, great trip...the women traveled great and no complaints from anyone. Bikes ran flawlessly except for 2 minor things...the right headlight on my brother in laws bike went out but that was fixed in Crescent City and he also had a slow leak in his brand new rear tire.

Thinking maybe a balance bead got stuck in the valve stem. Anyhoo....thanks for looking at my ramblings...and ride safe.

The Madstad had me worried a little at first. It didn't feel any different than the stock shield...even after adjusting it all over the place. When we left Lodi, I decided to try another adjustment and I guess I found the sweet spot because very little head buffeting after that. Without asking her, my wife even said it was less windy for her. Happy with it .

That's exactly what I told my wife what the forum members would say! She knows this next trip to have the camera ready at all times.

You're not kidding about the nation....lacking a sense of humor and common sense.

and no longer understand the term "debate" it doesn't mean the same as argue
"compromise" that is a dirty word and comes from debate and understanding of others and not just yourself

the age of the "un-social media"
easy to be mean when you don't have to worry about your eye being dotted as soon as the last word is out of your mouth

what ever happened to the old rule, "If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say nothing at all!!!!"

This forum is the only "social media" I have ever had. No Fakebook, no Twitter... not even a smart phone. With the way things are now...kind of seems like the end of the road for this once great nation.

Another thing that bothers me...every time I plan a trip now, I have to wonder how things will be in 2 months or whatever for travel.... and I don't mean gas prices. I'm getting beyond annoyed.

I DO have a smart phone now.... as of last December..... because the cell phone provider told me that if I did not upgrade my account would be cancelled because all 2G towers were to be shut down, I still had a flip phone...... only used it for emergencies and carried it with me when I was on the wing....... it was much easier to fit in a pocket than a smart phone

My wife used to work for the airline industry way back when you could still smoke on a plane.
you couldn't catch or force either one of us on a plane any more...... that is why we bought a travel trailer.
That will be our mode of travel once I retire..... we plan on doing some US and Canada touring......she won't ride my bike (but at least she lets me have one)

Yep...I have a flip phone as well. Most of the time, unless riding, I don't even carry it. I would love to tour in Canada, but last I checked I can't get in because I haven't been jabbed.

I was born and raised in Texas my wife born and raised in Canada (dual passports),
so have lots of relatives in Eastern Canada and two daughters moved back for their jobs (being multi-lingual opens lots of doors), and they have said it was all taken a bit too far
personally, I have been jabbed more than once..... mainly because of my wife's health conditions that put her into one of the high risk categories and I love her too much for it to be my fault

so when we hit the north border..... we can use which ever passport that makes it the easiest

Understood. My son and his family live in Montgomery, Texas. Couldn't take California anymore and got out last November.

one couple I know, sold a double wide trailer house on 2 acres in Cal. and bought a 3000 sq ft house on 30 acres a big RV motorcoach.... and still money enough to take early retirement

but we have some crazies in charge here to..... just from the opposite end of the spectrum
like how can someone under indictment still be AG and running for it again.....go figure

I had to look to see where Montgomery was..... that was a town that I did not recognize....... down by Houston...feel sorry for them with the heat we have had this summer plus the humidity they always have there..... would have to cut the air before you can chew it the way it has been this summer..... Yes...all the big cities have the crazies. They just can't seem to leave the people who want to be left alone...alone. I'm in the same boat out here...I have a nice home but it's value has quadrupled in 9 years. I owe very little on it...I could sell and walk away with a bundle and pay cash in Oklahoma or somewhere else...for an even nicer home with land but...I'm still 8 years from retirement and I've been at the same company for 34 years...this is all I know. Hard to start over...but I'm closer than I've ever been to doing so.

I completely understand the retirement part of it....... doing some figuring in September to see if it is still next school year or the end of this one that I pull the retirement plug
