I will skip the nasty details and get to the main issue.....I have spent a stupid amount of money on a HD Road Glide trying to make it into a touring bike.......it isnt...never will be.....nothing against HD...another discussion....it is just not me....a mistake.
I am looking at a new GW....I ride what I consider a reasonable amount of miles 12K plus/yr..12months a year,,, live in Oregon ride in rain.....alot.....over 50,,,,,ride 2 up most of time....looking for the comfort
I am 6 3 an I am concerned over the seat....I am looking at getting the Corbin seat or going to Russell Daylong and moving back 2 inches....it is pricey but comfort has it price.....
has anyone changed seats and found an answer to this situation
The stock seat clips my tail bone and pushes my knees forward.

Tooth, 1st welcome to the site lots of helpful people here. I have 2 friends that are brothers & over 6' 3" & they both had issues feeling cramped. 1 brother has a 1500 the other an 1800. The brother with the 1800 still gets fidgety once in a while but neither has a custom saddle. They both got highway pegs to stretch out. When I rode a Vulcan 1500 I was considering a Russell seat. To me they looked the most promising. Here is another link to seat modifications maybe this will interest you.

Good luck.

By the way I will say your passenger will love a Wing.

Fossil: I saw a GL1800 (maybe an '04 or '05 model ) at Rolling Thunder with your exact seat on it. I wonder if yours would fit the bill for Too Tall Tooth ?

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania. Hope you become a Wing owner, but if not you are still a fellow biker. I had a Saddleman Road Sofa on my 98 GL1500 and loved it, but I'm only 5'9". If you get a Wing you will love it, I'm sure. Good luck on your decision...

Thanks to all for input

I really like Fossils sugguestion.....under $300 is a great answer. I have a Triumph Trophy 1200 that I got a Daylong seat and it was over $800 by the time I was done......It has been a good seat but quite a hassle.....

Welcome Tooth,i realize i'm somewhat prejudiced because i ride one,but have you been able to at least sit on a 1500? There seems to be a lot less of these type complaints from 1500 owners that are tall fellows, of which i am not. I'm 5'10 and quite comfy on my 94SE,especially since i put on my Kury pegs recently. Hope you are able to get whatever you need for the ride that you want. Ride often and Safe.

Tooth, I have a Hartco seat on on mine & both of us love it. It was only a temporary seat at the time of purchase because P.O. of our bike had shaved the stock seat for him to fit on bike (he was short). That was 4 years ago. Not temporary anymore. I do not know for sure but maybe if you call them they will build a seat for you.

I have heard good things about the Ultimate seats as well

Hey Tooth, welcome to the forum! You asked about anyone having a Corbin, I've been riding on a Corbin for about 10,000 now, I ride a 2000SE. You are correct about the "hardness" but I really like the seat. Had the recent opportunity to have a Ultimate fitted to the bike and sit on it also.

to wing or not to wing

Tooth, I feel your pain! When I read your post I thought I had written it. I too have a HD roadglide with 50k miles of attempts to make it a REAL touring machine. I am 6'5" and live in Oregon. WOW
deja vu. Just picked up a 10 Wing on Thursday. Heading out today for a 400 mile ride. Will let you know how the seat works for us too tall guys.

Hello Tooth. Another option is to go to an upholstery place, and see how much they would charge to make you a custom seat. I did that with my previous bike, not a Wing, and was very happy with the results. It was kinda pricey, but in todays market you might be able to work out a good deal.

Tooth,
You'll enjoy a Wing for the power, quiet engine and comfort. You can have a custom seat made there are a number of companies that make them. The one I'd like to get for my '93 comes from Saddleman. They also have the 'Road Sofa' seat for the 1800, these seats too are made specifically for the rider.

The Oregon district of GWRRA is having thier district rally/convention next weekend (June 17-19) at Kan-nee-tah High Desert Resort and Casino in Warm Springs,OR. You may want to search it on the web or go to gwrra.org and pull up the Oregon district to find a rally schedule / vendor listing. Most rallies will have multiple companies showing off thier products. Go out and have a great time with a bunch of great people and compare products. Most vendors also offer special pricing too. If you want to travel some, Wing Ding in Des Moines, Iowa is June 30- July 3, the Grand Daddy of Goldwing Rally/ Conventions. If it goes on a Goldwing, it will be there. Last Wing Ding I went too, I spent $1300 in accessories. Finally paid off that credit card!
