I wonder how many people out there try to use a 2 dollar tire gauge. Or for that matter, even check tire pressure if it looks good.

Buy a quality gauge, take care of it, but use it often is the best advice you can give someone. Safer for the rider, and also makes the tires last longer. A win win siuation.
