Did your mechanic sync the carbs after rebuilding them?

Your plug gap should be .031-.036 inches.

Take the bike in to a reputable shop and have the carbs synced before you do anything else.

I recommend Ed's Motorcycle and Snowmobile located at Sprague & Theirman. I can't quote prices, but I wouldn't think it would be more than an hours labor.

Oil needs to be specific for motorcycles not regular oil for cages. Check the ratings to be sure it is for use in motorcycles. Since this guy does not seem to be able to gap plugs I would be cautions with any other advice he gives you. JMHO
