I hva e a new to me 2003 1800. The Indiana weather allowed me to take it out for a bit so I can get used to it. The gear shift seems too short. I would like to have ahead / toe shifter of a longer lever. The rear brake lever is the same way. My big ol feet were searching for them. Any Ideas?

Heal-toe shifters have a win/lose reputation. On the one hand they allow a different access to the foot controls, and on the other they cause internal problems needing an engine removal and case splitting to correct. There is a fellow out of California making adjustable shift levers. He goes by ‘Rocky’ on another forum. And I’ve seen aftermarket brake levers advertised before, that are longer or wider. All I am able to do here is tease you into searching the internet. I have no experience with these items. I have only tried to make a friends H/T shifter work better, with poor results. And I’ve removed H/T setups and installed OEM for a happy outcome for them. Happy hunting.

On my O4 GL 1800 I have put aftermarket foot boards with a heal-toe shifter along with a new foot break lever, I have had no problems or issues with them. All that was required was to remove the three screws from the foot pegs and install the footboards with the heal-toe shifter, removal of the old foot break lever an install the new one--

I would try to avoid the heal/toe shifter unless you have ridden a wing with one. I have removed them from my two past wings as they make it difficult to shift. I have found that I had to upshift with my heel and downshift with my tow and it was not very smooth. They can also bend the shit forks instead the transmission.
Years ago I worked at a major motorcycle dealership and if someone came in the shop with a new bike that had shifting issues, they would void the warranty on the transmission if there was a heal/toe shifter.
Just remember this us a Goldwing not a Harley. :)

I have over 63,000 miles on mine with a heel/toe shift and have had NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM-----Are trying to say a Harley trans is better than a Goldwing's????? I think not--To me that is like saying the charging system would be void if you put aftermarket driving lights on--or used aftermarket air filter etc. As we all know warranty companies will always try to find any reason NOT to pay up----

No way is a Harley transmission better than wing. I am saying the location of the shifter on a Harley is different so a heal-toe shifter is not as inconvenient than it is on a wing.

I have never had a problem with heal/toe shifters on either HD or on my Wing an for me I find them both on HD an my Wing quite comfortable an convenient, a lot better than my 48 FL with the tank shift an foot clutch way back in the day---but again this is just me--
