1989 1500 goldwing. The shift shaft is very sloppy (side to side) where the linkage attaches. I just got the bike (very excited) and it just does"nt look right. Im toying with the idea of making some kind of makeshift (no pun intended) support for the end of the shift shaft. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

hi pepper. we've seen this problem a few times in the shop an is usually caused by misadjusted aftermarket floorboard shift linkages. we never tried an outside bracket but it sounds possible. usually we split the cases an install a bushing that we manf. in our shop along with a new shiftshaft an oil seal. let us know if you have any luck with an outside fix. good luck

Well you are right about the aftermarket floorboard shifter...Its got one of those. With the shift shaft being so sloppy how come the oil seal hasn"t sprung a leak. The end of the shift shaft moves a total of 1/4 in. Thanks in advance.
