I'M selling my 1998 GoldWing 1500 due to the fact I would like to upgrade to some new features. I would like to get some feed back for anyone out there on what year I should look at and why. I have been looking at some 2002 2003 models and like them, but not sure If I want to give the the 1500 style. I have looked at some 99 1500 50th ann and love'em .

I'm not sure to go with a new 2002 -2004 bike or stay with the trusty 99 1500. What do you guy's think?

Thanks for the input.

I traded my 98 GL1500 SE, which I absolutely loved, last year on a 09 GL1800, I don't regret my decision at all. As good as the 1500 is, the 1800 is that much more. I don't know your $$, but if I was looking to upgrade I would look to something 2006 or later. Not that 2001-05's were bad but they did have some frame and coolant problems that required recalls by Honda. Beginning in 2006 those were no longer issues. If you go with a 2001-05 make sure all the recalls were done.

The 1800 is a quicker and more agile bike that runs like a touring bike yet can handle twisties like a sport bike. It also has FI which eliminated a lot of problems with carbs.

In the end it's your choice and your $$. Good luck and ride safe..

ryrebo, like you, I love the lines and style of my 1500 (2000SE) not sure I can ever give it up. I like the bells and whistles of the 18's and my local dealer has a 2010 metallic red comfort/audio that I really like, but personally, its the front end design of the 18 that makes me go ugghh, and, I feel a little cramped in the saddle of an 18. But that's just me, no offense 18 owners. Other than the fuel injection, ABS and airbag, you can upgrade the 15 with everthing the 18 has to offer. Good luck with your decision.

Not really, the performance and handling is so much better on the 1800. I had 2 1500's a 92 that I put 108,000 ,miles on and a 98 SE that I put about 50,000 miles on, they are great bikes and I never thought there could be anything better but once you ride an 1800 the 1500 seems like a tank. There is no sense in going from a 98 to a 99 or 2000 unless the 98 is wore out, which I doubt it is. 98 to 2000 are the same bike, no changes at all. except that 98 & 99 had white dash and 2000 Honda went back to the black face. If you go 1800 look at 06 or newer, a lot of changes were made in 06, I had an 02 with no issues so any year from 01 up would be good, if you buy a 01 to 04 check with a Honda dealer and see if the recalls were done.
