Now I could be wrong here, but I don't think you guys have what we call a Road Train. The big one's are 123 feet long and maybe travelling at 55-60mph. Then the smaller ones are 87 feet and travelling at 65-70mph.
If you ever come to the land Down Under and you are going to the outback, you will come across these Road Trains. I am not saying that you should break the road rules, but I am saying it is the safest way to get past them.
Carry about 10mph faster than they are travelling and at about 100 feet behind them pull out and see if the road ahead is clear. If clear throw all road rules into the wind and gun it. I like to get up to about 90mph, to get past as quick as I can. Now there are 4 things that you need to be aware of at this stage.
1/ Watch out for road junctions. Because someone can just appear out of nowhere off a road and leaves you nowhere to go.
2/The Road Train may have startled a roo or emu. And you don't want one of them trying to hitch ride on the front of your wing.
3/These guys can have a big bow wave waiting for you as you go past the cab. And at this speed an excursion onto the gravel will test anyone.
4/Cattle Road Train need that extra space as you pass because you don't know when they are going to releave themselves. As far as I am conserned, a great rate on knots is required.
The road rules are: The speed limit is the speed limit. And if the Road Train is travelling at 65mph and the speed limit is 70mph. How many miles down the road can you see and how many miles will it take to pass. In this case thow the rules in the air and gun it.
