Welcome to Wingdom jbrides. Yes there's a difference between Wings and just about everyting else, but this day and age, ANY bike repairs are going to hurt the wallet. thankfully, wings just don't bite you in the a$$ very often. Enjoy!
btw, I love the FXWG, my favorite HD, if I'd bought one of those instead of the convertible, I'd likely still have it (would still have a GW in the garage naturally). Of course I'd get rid of those stupid buckhorn mini-ape bars they used to have and get a set of 'real' apes that would both compliment the bike and ease the pain on the riders' wrists.

Congrats on your new Wing and welcome to the forum from the Keystone state, your neighbor to the west. Lots of nice folks on here with good information. Spent many days and nights in Parsippany and East Hanover area. Ride safe and enjoy the site..

I cant say that I blame you for the switch. I have several friends with HD's and they are always wrenching on them. I always tell them you wanna work on them get a HD if you wanna ride get a GW. I prefer to ride.
Welcome aboard from IL:)

Would like to see a list of the "repairs" made that Harley "didn't stand behind"? HD has warranty, just like Honda, if it was still in affect and there were no non-harley mods-what wasn't covered?

That is a stereo-typing remark! I owned several HD's before getting my Wing. Had only one issue on one bike that was fixed in 2hrs and covered by warranty. Tell you friends, they should quit "messing" and start riding.
Thought this was a Gold Wing sight-Let's leave the "other" makes alone.

That is a real shame. Yes, the cam chain pads were a weak link in the early twin cams. There was a change in the material some time ago. I heard horror stories of those failing in as few as 10K miles. Others claim they were close to 100K without any problems! My 01 Ultra had 47K on it when I checked mine and had to have them replaced. I was beyond my extended warranty so, I had to pay for my replacements also. I assume you were out of warranty also?

I feel your pain but you will enjoy the wing. I had a 2000 Indian Chief with the S&S EVO engine and lots of goodies on it and in it. Whenever she was down hard and I was unable to fix she went into the shop for at least 2 months. So I started buying older Wings so I could ride while my Indian was down. My first wing was a naked 78, then a few years later I had a 90. 3 months after I sold the 90 wing my indian was stolen while I was out of town. 6 months later I found a deal on a 76 wing and have spent all winter bringin her back. My 3rd and oldest wing yet and I just finished a 1500 mile trip that went 5 states out and back again on this vintage wing and not only did she perform well, my rear did not get tired like it used to do on the Indian. Indian was a Babe Magnet but the wing will keep you on the road!!! I also found a 77 wing real cheap so I have plans for another winter project. It does get into your blood! Welcome to forum!!!

Sweet! So a Harley is like a swimming pool: best when your neighbors have one so you can enjoy it without it costing you anything ?

I saw the light too

Hi jbrides,
I have also just joined the site and have have just sold my Harley like you. I have just been to a Harley meet with some of my buddies, and had to help 5 out of 10 of them with breakdowns on the way there and back. I have seen the light now and would not go back to a numb rear end and constant breakdowns. I was annoyed that I couldnt hear my radio properly because of the noise of the bone shakers.

Our group rode with the harley crowd, the hardly crowd(wanna b's), sportbikers together for Special Olympics a short while back. We were behind the twins, (damn the noise) interfered with my tunes. This was an escorted ride (every police, sheriff, trooper) that could be spared. Of the roughly 300 bikes involved, 26 of the twin cylinder jobbies broke down. The ride was less then 35 miles!!! That's not even a gallon of gas yet in a Wing. I bought a Wing to travel, not to WORK ON! My better half and I are leaving the 4th of next month on a 3,000 mile excursion. That would average 86 brake downs on some other brand.:D
