Hi,
This is my 1st post and I have a question. I found a 1989
Gl1500 in a town near me with 39,000 original miles and he
is asking $3900. It is owned by an older gentleman and he
says everything works. He said he would even give me a
pair of matching helmets with the intercom cables. He did
say the tires looked good but the bike had set a couple of
years so I should have them checked. Seems like a good deal
what do you guys think ? Anything I should look for in this
particular model ? Remember I am new to this model but not
bikes, I currently ride a Vmax. The wing is a totally different
bird though, not sure what to look for other than the basic
weaping fork seal etcetera.
Thanks,
Chris

First, welcome to the board. As far as the GL1500 goes, they are pretty much a problem free machine. If you check other posts on the board there are a few items that need attention after so many miles, but for the most part they are dependable machines. The price seems right and I would think you would want to change fluids and put on a new set of tires.

Thanks all,
Just came back from trying out the bike. Bike was a tad rough,
missing goldwing emblem on right side cover also paint faded
or peeling right below the same side cover. Some fading around
instrument panel etc., looks like it needed some detailing bad.
Gentleman has had some health issues so dirt is understandable.
I was amazed by the sheer bulk of the thing. Was twice as wide
as my current bike. The weight is low so after I slung a leg over
it was easy enough to balance. Now the problem: As I started to
accelerate it would blubber and buck even stalling on me twice.
Guy said a month ago it ran fine and dealer had prepped it and
taken care of carbs. It would start right back up but would
blubber and jerk. Guy said he would send it to dealer to make sure it was right if I was serious. Think I will continue looking as I feel
the bike should run right from the outset. My 89 Max is much
cleaner in comparison.
The search continues,
Thanks to all,
Chris

You made the right decision. If you are not satisified with the operation of the bike, best to walk away and keep looking. Lots of great Wings out there at reasonable prices. Good luck in your search. Keep us posted.

Two Wheel is spot on. I am a firm believer in purchasing anything, "It has to call you". You know now that I think of it I might just be cheap, however the former sounds better don't you think?
