Newbe to Goldwing

I have a 1984 honda goldwing aspencade Gl1200 can anyone tell does the engine need to be running before the air compressor will work. Any help would be great thanks

If I remember correctly, the engine doesn't need to be running, but you need to push two buttons at once.

With the ignition on, push the front or rear selector and push increase to operate the compressor.

Do you have an Owner's Manual?

If you don't have an Owner's Manual the closest one I can find online is for a 1985.
