Hey everyone,
I am picking up my New Goldwing on Friday and really looking forward to riding it home from N.C. I will probably be visiting this site since I have alot of questions. Just sold a 2007 Kawasaki Nomad. Really loved that bike but it was time for me and my wife to ride and enjoy with comfort and style!

Welcome Sealnga, I'm quite sure you and your wife will enjoy your new GoldWing.
Welcome to the forum and the Wonderful World of Wings and congrats on your new Wing. You've picked the right bike for traveling. Lots of great places to ride, especially on a Wing. Enjoy yourself and ride safe.
Hi Sealnga, congrats on the Wing. The little lady and I along with some friends just did 3000 kms in 6 days. This bike is amazing on the open road. I'm a newbee..just had it 6 weeks. Incredible power, excellent machine. I would suggest you keep an eye on this site because I have learned so much by just reading what the other forum contributors have to say. And even the smallest, possibly oddest question you may have will get a response from people who have alot more experience with these great machines than I have. Safe ridin', man.
Thanks for all the welcomes. I do have one small question. When is the first oil change and can I change it myself. I want to put Amsoil synthetic in when the time comes for th first change. Thanks again

Well you've asked the age old question.. Honda recomends oil change every 8,000 miles on the GL1800. Some folks do the first change at 4,000. I see others on the board that change at 2,000, and some that have changed it as soon as they got the bike home. I personally have 2,000 on my Wing and I'm planning to change the oil shortly. I'm putting in Honda synthetic blend. I used it on my 98 GL1500 for years and never had a problem.

Make sure you change your filter with the first change, whenever you do decide to change it. I also bought a oil filter wrench that is designed to remove both the filter and drain plug. It cost about $12 and allows you to change the oil without taking off the front cowel. Some use a strap wrench and say that works just as well also.

You should be able to do it yourself in about 30 minutes. Remember to save your reciepts in case you have any warranty issues.

Good luck.
There is no "Break-In" Period to switch to synthetic oil. Yes, Honda says 8000 miles but my manual also said 4000 under Severe Service and over 98% of use is severe service.

I use to change my AMSOIL at 12,000 miles on my Wing..

BTW... If anyone is going to "Wings Over the Smokies" Make sure to look me up... I was there 2 years ago and had a great time. We will have a Special for the show only.
