Anybody have any traditional New Year’s Day rides?

In Alabama and Mississippi a lot of bikes head for Ezell’s Fish Camp east of Butler, AL on highway 10 along the Tombigbee River. A large group from Alabama even gets a state police escort. It was pretty cold last year and there were still a couple hundred bikes. This year a front will be bringing rain through which hopefully will be east of there by mid-morning. The remperatures are supposed to be in the 60's which will be nice.

Here are a couple pictures from last year. It was starting to thin out before I thought about the camera.

You must be hoping that the weather ends up like last year with blue skies. I am going to get another ride in somewhere but at the moment I don't know where. So that will be a surprise for all of us.

Every New Year's day we get together for a ride to a different resturant for food and friendship. This year we are going to a nice place in Lake Wales, Fl. Some of us will be taking off from Fort Myers while a crew will be coming down from Mount Dora. Weather man is calling for highs in the upper 70's, so it should be another great NEW YEAR"S DAY ride.

All of you warm southern guys take a good long ride for us northerners who are stuck in the cold. About 80 days and we will be joining you. Ride safe and enjoy...

I have a group that we meet and ride every New Years day, just want to make sure we are all still alive and kicking. We pick a different place every year to have breakfast.

The GWRRA from Laurel, MS cancelled our run to Ezell's fish camp due to the rain. I don't mind riding rain if I am caught on a ride but usually don't plan riding if I know it is going to rain ALL day. Have a great new year with the rubber on the down side.

I'm with you, 8+ inches of snow on the ground and down around 0 degrees, isn't exactly ridding weather.

I'm reminded that one of our manufactures of Toilet seats is a company by the name of Church. Their sogan is, are you ready.......

"The best seat in the House."

Maestro if you can't get that thing working remember you know a plumber.

Mark, I'm truly sorry to participate in this hijack of your thread. Let's get back on track. The pictures looked like the weather wasn't that bad last year. I thought I saw where you guys were getting storm warnings yesterday? Good Luck on the ride today.

Just got back and as I thought we had the front go through ahead of us. It was cloudy and cool all morning with the temperatures going down after the front. It started out in low 50’s, almost made it to 60, and then back down to 50 at sundown. Lot warmer than last year with our memories telling us it was around 30 in the morning and warming to the mid-40’s in the afternoon. Only six bikes from our chapter got together this morning and headed over there. The Mobile, AL group, which is usually the largest portion, cancelled due to the bad weather. They would have been in heavy rain all the way up there. Only a hand full of other bikes showed up this year but the weather was truly rotten with some tornados the day before. GoldDigger, I did see at least one shirt from Laurel so some decided to go ahead and head that way. On our way home the sun came out. It was a very good day to start a new year. I’ll see what pictures I have and post them tomorrow.

Nothing special, just a good luck ride on the first day of the new year. Today in KC it was partly cloudy, highs around 30, my general rule has become 1 mile per degree.

Usually there is a large group of bikes at this fish house on the Tombigbee River. This year the weather caused most of the groups to cancel. The day was pretty good and fewer people meant we didn't have trouble finding a seat and getting fed. Here is a shot of our little group.

Hope others had a similar good day to ride. Those of you under the snow I tried hard to do good for y'all. You can live vicariously through me until March.

You have my life in your hands at least until April and then I'm going to have to cut you loose. Better to dream another man's dream than live your own nightmare. Ride, Mark, ride.

Mark, We are definitely in the hold pattern up here in the North. We are circling & waiting for not only the weather to clear but for the runway to be clean of debris. Again, glad you had a good time my friend. Keep riding & be safe.

Thanks, I'll do my best. No long rides planned in the near future but we may ride up to Branson with another couple next month. We'll see. At least I'll be running around central Mississippi on shorter rides.

Anyone else do any rides on New Years day?

In Boonville Missouri with 25 degrees and a 20+ mile NW wind on 1-1-11, our new years day ride was done in mama's car, with the windows up and the heater on. We met in the of office of one of our guys, and over hot soup, hot coffee and corn bread, we planned a May ride!
