Hi all.....

Looks like a great place to meet others and get some answers to nagging questions.

I have Goldwing 1500 with a California side car attached, (I should post some pics I suppose). I've been riding this rig for about two seasons now. Feeling pretty comfortable but still have moments of "what's that!" when wind shear hits me.

I'm thinking about towing a camper behind my rig. It's maybe 500 pounds give or take.

Has anyone tried this? Problems? Tow setup? I'm looking for whatever experience/advice the group might have.

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania. Where do you call home? I don't know much about towing with the Wing since I don't have one on my 09, but seems to me with a side car and 500 pound camper/trailer you are getting pretty close to the max capabilities with a 1500 and handling and stopping could be a big issue. If you have an additional passenger you may be way over the limit.

welcome to the site--- and let me say that mostly the people who have responded to you so far have been correct --- but there are some variables--does you side car rig have brakes on the side car? does the trailer you are thinking of pulling have brakes--these two items will make a big difference in the margine of safty to you and your machine---- there are several diffent companys who make electric brakes for the trailer and two that I know of that make the hydrolic brakes for the side car.

After spending the last 25 years attending WingDing all over the country --- I am supprised at what people are towing --so I try to evaluate each tow rig and ask a lot of questions about them. The main thing to remember is safty and what you are comfortable towing.

Welcome from Florida. I have no experience towing with my 1500 yet,but what you are proposing does sound quite risky. So-Cal's advice sounds great. You mentioned wind shear.I don't know how much of a difference it would make with the sidecar,but a Bellypan sure made a big difference in that dept. for me and and many others with 2 wheel 1500's. If yours doesn't have one,in my opinion worth a try,very inexpensive.Good Luck. Let us know what you end up with and how it performs. Ride often and safe.

My personal thoughts are like the others concerning the brakes but I would be almost as concerend with the final drive durability at this point. It just wasn't designed to pull that much weight and Im sure the rubber isolators in the hub. the splines, the U joint and the transmission itself would be pretty taxed with sidecar, passenger. luggage, and a 500 lb camper. At least with a Trike you can lower the gear ratio to pull heavy loads and uses a automotive rearend.
