Hi all
I´m a new Goldwing owner and I live in Iceland, I´ve been a member of both Sabre,Magna,Interceptor forum and the shadow forum and I hope I´ll be able to get and give as much to this board as I got and gave to the other boards.

I got the idea few weeks ago to sell my Shadow 700 1986 and buy an old Goldwing (Oldwing) so I finally did it and bought what I think it´s an 1983 Goldwing I´m not sure what year it is but it´s registered as an 1984 but that is impossible because it´s got the looks of an 1980-1983 and originally it had the 1100 motor, but now it´s got a 1986 1200 motor in it.
Is there any good way to figure out what year it is?
It looks good and drives great but I can hear some whining in the drive train somewhere:mad: I can´t put my finger on where it comes from but it bothers me a lot, I´m almost afraid to ride it.
If you have any ideas for me to check out then that would be great.
I´ll post some pictures as soon as I get some of them in my computer.

Best to all of you out there

Gunnar Már

Welcome to the Forum from down in Texas. Some good friends of ours sponsored a foreign exchange student from Iceland a few years back. Delightful young lady, I might add. Good luck on your new to you Wing.

Hello and welcome, trying to help with a noise over the net would prove difficult. I would suggest at this point before you get in too deep. Check the bike over from top to bottom .and do a complete inspection of the bike before riding it. Start with getting a manual and get familiar with your bike before you start wrenching on it.
Take notes of the needed work so you can be informed of everything the bike may need before getting into the noise.which may be from a cheap easy fix to what the heck were they thinking expensive.

Hi all again and thanks for the greetings

Today I dug up the names of two PO´S and this whining has been like this for over twelve years, and some Goldwing specialist of some kind told the PO it is normal.
I don´t know but next weekend I´m giving her a good look over and checking all bearings and brakes.

Thanks for the help

Hi all and thanks.
It´s amazing how in all the forums I´ve joined there is always someone who has been in Iceland.
Last year I got a visit from a member of the Sabre,Magna,Interceptor board and we had a wonderful evening together.
So if any of you are travelling to Iceland you are all velcome, just let me know.
I hope I´ll be able to post some pictures soon.

Best to all

Welcome to the forums Gunnar Mar. There is some gear whine in Goldwings of just about any vintage, and it's likely normal but checking it out is a good thing. Change the rear diff fluid (I use Amsoil synthetic). The trannies on Wings have a whine as well. Post a pic of your baby and we'll see about the year.
