Just joined this forum. Have had several bikes before, including Gold Wing.
Just purchased a 1987 Gold Wing. Rode it home okay. Took it out for a ride last weekend, and it died on me.
Not sure what the problem is....Been looking for a mechanic in my area (East Texas, Tyler area) but am unable to locate anyone who will work on a Gold Wing....
Just hoping someone else in East Texas can give me some info on who I might try?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Tom

Welcome to the forum from the southeast tier of Pennsylvania. I feel your pain on getting your wing serviced. Dealerships are more and more refusing to do any work on bikes over 10 years old.

I found an independent shop that I questioned about working on a Gold Wing - and when I took it in for servicing I watched everything the tech did. If the tech would have started forcing anything I would have stopped the service and called it quits. I was fortunate in the tech not only knew what he was doing servicing the wing but also did an overall check of the bike to see if I needed another appointment to have additional work done.

Wish you success on your search for a reliable shop.

Welcome to the forum. With an older bike, it is hard to find a shop that will work on them. Getting parts can sometimes be a challenge as well.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and help. My GW is actually a 1997, LOL, typo!
I originally rode it home @70 miles. Only problem was the rear brakes seemed soft.
When I rode last weekend, it definitely had issues with I am thinking the clutch. I would start in neutral, but when put in gear it would lunge forward and then die on me. I am not a beginner rider. Been riding various bikes for years. I'm just not a mechanic.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome Aboard.
The alternator may not be working properly or a bad pulse generator.
When were the fluids changed last?
When were the timing belts changed?
Its a little over 2 hours to Conroe, contact Randy at Cut 'n Shoot Customs http://www.cutnshootcustoms.com/
They should be able to get your Wing running.

The fact that you have a soft rear brake points to lack of maintenance. Total brake bled is in order. Along with clutch bleed, coolant change and final drive oil changed. If you are not up to doing this yourself, you will need to find someone familiar with the process. Trike Lady gave you one suggestion.
Have you tried a Honda dealer?
