I've had my '83 GL1100 since 1989, and the maintenance is pretty basic and easy to do, and it continues to run like a dream. It's not that demanding.
I just also purchased a lovely GL1500, and it strikes me that the maintenance routines are more involved and demanding. Which seems just the opposite of cars. Older cars required semi-annual tuneups, for example, whereas late models only at, say, every 100k miles. Oil changes of course, as always, are on strict schedules.
Any comments?

changing front brake pads , oil filter and air filter are more involved on a 1500 as compaired to the 1200 aspy i sold last month btu i would not buy another 1200 because of that. i am going to start looking for a naked '84 1200. the 1500 fits me better than the 1200 i had, my legs always felt cramped on the 1200. i wanted a gelpad for it just to raise me up and i am only six feet. it had a markland seat on it which appeared to be just as tall as a stock seat or maybe the foot pegs on the 1500 are farther fowared not sure
