Install the trunk on 2021 non tour Goldwing
Hi all, Looking for advice. When I bought my 2021 GW, the one without the trunk, I lost a ton of luggage capacity I had on my Kawasaki Concours-my helmet fit easily in a saddle bag. Anyhooo, I want to have the color matched, uber expensive trunk installed. The previous owner had added a few googaws, grip covers (I 86'd those immediately), the gold strike highway foot rests, meh, the center stand YAY! and a luggage rack. I'm assuming some body part was removed to add it, what I'm hoping is that, that will not affect it's removal and installation of the trunk. Has anyone else done this, had it done? Appreciate any help, I really need more luggage capacity.

Since you say,
it would be helpful if you could post some pictures so I/we could actually see if something was removed and what that something might be. IMO this is needed before I can tell you what you need to do to add the trunk. Oh, the trunk can be added for sure, it's just that the devil is in the detail$a luggage rack. I'm assuming some body part was removed to add it

Thanks. Yeah it's a nice rack, but I really need more luggage capacity. I went from a Kawasaki Concours with two huge side bags, and a 52 liter Givi top box. Most of my rides are 10-14 day long mileage. I need my stuff.I want to add one of those to my 2022 DCT non tour so I've looked this up already. Here it is new Rear Carrier Rack for 2018+ GW

Are you trying to put the Tour trunk on your non-Tour?
If so I inquired about do this to a non-Tour that sitting on showroom floor and was told the cost was “about $10,000”.
Not sure how truthfully that is as dealer may have trying to discourage me from doing that.

Special Wing, I don't know why someone would tell you that, he/she is either grossly mistaken or, for who knows what reason, is trying to discourage you because it just isnt true. It's gonna cost in the $2500 range, not cheap, but not $10k

I really like the concept of Trunkless until needed. But I might not use a trunk. Instead I’d use a waterproof soft bag that is expandable. I believe more items could be stowed in a soft bag than a hard trunk.
I would like to know what dealer said 10K as well. I already talked about with the dealer last year and was quoted in the $2,500 range. 2K of that is just the parts. Thanks all for the input. I was really hoping to find a good video of someone installing one. I’m pretty mechanical but some things are best left to the shop. I’m just not convinced either way on this one. one thing to consider is the stock supports under the plastic on the baggers are just sheet metal that has been stamped into shape.I would like to know what dealer said 10K as well. If it bolts to the stock bagger pieces, then I would not trust the set up with my wife on the back leaning against the backrest on the tour top case.

You have the same problem, the Honda OEM pieces under the plastic are flimsy sheet metal (14 gage) pieces with the only structural support being the bends in the metal. It won't support much weight at all especially a weight that is being bounced around and vibrating while going down the road.Try a GIVI 1172 rack for a fraction of the price, easy to install, and various sizes of GIVI boxes will fit the rack.

I went with the GIVI option, I like having the flexibility of removing bag on long trips or when I am just running out - it was a 20 minute install, it is rally secure and solid, and can be removed with a handle when I want to stow my laptop, IPAD, other valuables on a long trip and quicly remove to bring to room. Easily holds full face helmet along with a lot of other things I want to have easy access to like sunscreen, windshield cleaner, etc. I haven't regretted the choice one time after three years and two long tours, and there are a lot of styles and options. That actually looks pretty good. Yes I agree on the ease of popping off the case to bring it to a secure place. I've used Givi on several different sport touring bikes. I was mostly looking for on advice about installing the OEM trunk myself. I've alway done lots of maintenance on many of bikes, but this install seams daunting. I'll be sure to wave if our paths cross. Is that a Givi V47 Monokey? Have you had any issues with build quality, water resistance , or sun fading.
