Inspection Stickers

For those of you that have to have inspection stickers, where are you putting them? I’m in West Virginia and they require them but I bought my bike out of state and haven’t gotten one yet. If you could, post pics of where you found the best place to stick them. Thank you, Matt.

When Mississippi had them I kept it in the trunk with my proof of insurance. You can't put them on the windshield, so the LEO's knew we should have them and ask for it. I did run into a road block one time that they asked me to show my papers.

Thankfully Mississippi did away with the inspection sticker scam about 5 years ago.

I have mine on the lower cowl on the lower left side. PA mandates that the sticker be on the left front on a non removable part. There is no such thing on a Goldwing, but it would take some time to remove the lower cowl. If the Leo wants to see it, he would just have to bend over and look. There is no place to mount it on the forks since they are covered. Also, no where to mount plate. Never had a problem in 20 years.

I put one of these on my engine crash guard on the left side of my bike. Keeps the sticky things off my paint. Lots of different models.

Here in Utah they did away with the inspection sticker a long time ago but I never had one on a bike. All vehicles had to bring in a certificate of safety inspection compliance to renew the plates. In recent years they did away with safety inspection all together.

My inspection is placed on the "chrome" cover of my left fork. It is placed there by the mechanic doing the inspection. In PA the inspection stickers come right off with no fuss. They put it right on the lower left fork on my Vulcan.

I haven't seen the mechanic having any issues removing the old sticker and placing the new stickers since my re-entering riding back in 1992 on my Kawasaki EL 250.

Unfortunately, some of us up this way have to display it for the world to see.

In Massachusetts, we have to place that sticker on our license plate (top right corner)

They used to have to be displayed by the plate
Now
It is a certificate you take or enter online to get new registration
But
They are in Austin, for the once every two years legislation gambit and they are talking dropping the inspection because of big problems with fake inspections

I lived in NC once upon a time.. Absolutely hated vehicle inspections there. Inspections was a joke. It is a scam to get revenue in the coffers.. half of the good ole boys just took the money and gave you a sticker and didn't even look at the vehicle. Some would nic-pic and fail inspection for the smallest junk, like "your tail light lense is scratched" this dispersing light inproperly.. 250.00 to fix. Nada.. so drove down the road to another inspection station, no questions asked. Scam.

Back in the day, (1980) I had a 442 and took off the catayltic converter and replaced it with a straight pipe to bypass it. Took it in for annual inspection and the station almost would not let me drive it out when he told me that it failed because I had bypassed the converter. After a brief heated discussion, I drove down to the next shop and the guy just handed me a sticker at the counter and took my money. Didn't even leave his chair. So it was a joke. You would see cars that would leave you scratching your head how they got inspected.

Then in Military we had a base access sticker.. these were to put on windshield or left front fork at some bases. Some made plates to attach to fork. Then when you left you had to bring in the sticker "pieces" to prove you removed it.

Florida and Georgia don't do inspections, but if you are stopped by a cop, and your headlight is out or they visibly see your tire is worn to the limit markers, they can give you a ticket.

I have made some "sticker" plates that mount to existing bolts on some of my motorcycles. I used to have a home made plate for my base stickers that attached to the pinch bolts and layed up against the fork. I've seen some with plates mounted to the crash bars. I guess it all depends on the size and need to fit your situation.

Some states require the license plate to be large plate for trailers and others can use the smaller motorcycle plate. Some require License plates to be horizontal or be read from left to right.. not turned on its side, reading from bottom to top. I think florida has a law that the plate has to be visible and not tucked into the wheel well, (crotch rockets) and be lighted at night.

If you can't find a plate, make your own. HD/Lowes has sheet metal that can be formed to fit most. Or you can luck out and find an aftermarket. Good luck

Once upon a time inspections were serious business in TX
You had to check headlight aim and all sorts of stuff
At least once every six months a DPS officer showed up in an unmarked vehicle and them in plainclothes to test your skills (dad used to be an official inspector) but now it is a joke
