:I picked up my new GW last Saturday from Honda of Russellville in Russellville Arkansas. We (wife and I) immediately left the dealership and headed to Eureka Springs for a quick weekender. I must admit the bike met all my expectations. But more importantly, it met my wife's expectations.

I am coming off a Yamaha FJR and was worried the GW would not be as responsive as the FJR especially in the area of handling. Although it does not handle like the FJR, it comes pretty close. Close enough that I may sell the FJR.

One thing I noticed was an uneven idle. Not a rough idle just uneven. Only noticeable when approaching a stoplight and when I engaged the clutch the engine would rev up and down. It never would rev above 1,000 rpm and never low enough to die. After a few seconds at the stoplight, the idle would even out. Any suggestions?

Overall we love the bike and hope to put many, many miles on it.

... Howdy ... Congrats. On The New Bike ... Allow Some Breakin Time And I'm Sure Everything Will Smooth Out ... Happy Trails ...
I have the same thing happening to my new Wing. It starts, it runs, it stops. Any odd noises, revs, bangs, or whatever....I ignore.
I picked up my goldwing last Tuesday in Rockingham NC. It was hot and humid. There was some surge on my bike that first day when sitting in stop and go traffic. I drove home (1500 miles) and do not remember it happening after the first day.
good luck with yours!
I agree! I traded a 2003 ST1300 on the Titanium 2009 GL1800. I gladly gave up some speed for the comfort of the goldwing. It is interesting that it takes more muscle to go around a tight switchback but that same desire to go straight helps breaking through truck generated wind.

I have almost 1800 miles on my 09 that i got in May I haven't noticed surging except on rare occasions, (maybe 2 or 3 times). Since I came from a GL1500 I just assumed it was the difference between carbs and programmed fuel injection. If it keeps up you may want to take it to the dealer to have it checked.
I guess I will just have to get out and put some serious miles on the GW to even out the idle. I hate it when that happens!!

Sounds like the ECM needs to be set/reset. Here's how:

Simple....
1. Make sure the engine is stone cold (let it sit over night).
2. Start bike without touching the throttle.
3. Let it continue to idle until the radiator fans come on.
4. Turn off the bike using the key (turn the key all the way counter-clockwise).
5. Start her back up and ride.

Not heard of this before. Will give it a try. When you say "all the way counter-clockwise" do you mean locking the steering? Thanks for the help.

Just to off. In other words don't turn it off by turning it to the right to the accessory setting.
hello and welcome to GWOF luv2ride71730

No. Just to the regualr off. Just not to the accessory setting to the right to kill the engine. Also don't use the kill switch. In other words, after the fans kick on turn the key to "off".
