I'm a Proud Canadian

We've pretty much always been the adopted 53rd state:D

As far as I know (the Ontario members can correct me if I'm wrong) the OLCB is still in control of the sale of spirits in Ontario. Out here the liquor outlets went private a few years ago but they are still regulated to separate stores. And yes the price of your favorite grog went up too.
Ideals may be liberal in Canada, but the taxes are very socialistic. Quebec is a very wonderful part of our country and the people are terrific. The political climate is still somewhat frightening (although somewhat less now with the demise of the Bloc in the recent election) with the separatist movement still trying to divide us and create disharmony. But that is some activists stirring things, not the general populace speaking. Teh vast majority just want to get along.
As to the language thing, there are some stubborn folk on both fronts, but I can guarantee that most Francophone's English is alot better than most Anglophone's French will ever be. Although far from fluent, I speak some French and read and understand it quite well. I spoke French with my Grandmother as a child and I'm sorry I haven't kept it up as well as I should have (c'est domage) and am working to better myself at it.
