I am considering picking up an 88 goldwing from my girlfriends dad. he has had it for years and years but hasnt ridden it in about 8 years due to a back injury that pretty much imobalizes him for the most part. I talked to him and asked what he wanted for it. we came up with 1000 as a fair price. I am not sure if i am going to buy it but i have about a month to decide because I am moving her from CA to MN here in a few weeks and that would be the easiest time to move the bike as well. Any thoughts?
Has he started it up at all during those 8 years, and when was it last started? That is a good price but if it doesn't run and has been sitting for 8 years you could be looking at a big job. Dry and blown fork and motor seals, carb rebuild, all fluid change, timing belts, tires, and the list can go on and on. If he has been starting it up and running it now and then you can probably get away with new tires and changing the fluids, did he have gas stablizer in it? You can get a nice 88 or 89 Wing for about $4 to $5,000
