HI, my name is Jacob. I'm a 37 year old carpenter with a wife, and four children. I'm a new member without a ride, but that will change very soon. My wife and I have talked for many years about the day we could afford a motorcycle, and due to the children and other expenses that talk has lasted awhile, but finally I find myself in the position to get up on two wheels! I'm currently looking at an89 gl but am anxious to hear any advice veteran owners may have. You seem to have a wonderful web-family, and I'm glad to be here.

hello and welcome to gwo forums jacob. if you get any goldwing make sure the timing belts have been changed. 1500 wings don't need a lot of gas to get them moving and for best fuel economy i shift the 1500 at 1800rpm. its smoother than the four cylinder wings and once you are comfortable you'll ride it like a sport bike

Welcome to the GWO Forums, Jacob!!! Enjoy! :D

Definitely take a look at, or have the timing belts changed. You can't go by what a seller says has been done, unless they have receipts showing the maintenance.
If you haven't already, check into a MSF new rider's course...most bike dealerships offer it, as well as some independent companies. Well worth the $$$, especially to a new rider, or one that has been out of the game for a few years.;)
