Hi...I am brand new to the Goldwing world. After a ride from NJ to Colorado Springs and back on a 2017 Harley Road Glide Special I decided I was done with Harleys. The suspension on the new Harley's is non-existent in my opinion especially compared to the new Goldwing. I even took off the stock rear shocks and replaced with progressive 444, took off the low profile tires and wheels and bought full sidewall tires but still ended up in pain at every minor bump in the road. So, after spending $2000 in a attempt to make a stock Harley rideable, I surrendered.

I have never owned a Goldwing before and would appreciate any tips you might have. I bought the DCT Tour. I am thinking about adding the Helibar risers...crash bars for highway pegs and thats about it. I am struggling to get the apple play to work. The screen has a melt down when I turn on apple play but works from the phone (defeats the purpose). I am using a Scala Cardo G4. I am going to try it with the Sena S 20 and see if it works.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

Welcome Mark to the GWOF from Pa. Congrats on the new ride.

There are several owners here for the 18/19 Wings and also a few of them know there way around the apple play very well. Hopefully they will chime in.

Congrats on the new Wing, and sorry the HD didn't work out like you hoped.

Did you purchase the bike new at a dealer? If so, they should be there for you to get you sorted on the infotainment system and pairing of your phone and headsets. We (dealers) train for that at great lengths to make sure the owner has no worries with the set-up.
If not, I'm guessing you are getting interference from your i-phone (assumption on the phone type) with the interface on the bike (somehow). They can be tricky until you get the feel for it. They are also prone to pairing interference from nearby (other) sources as well. Hopefully members that have found the solution (similar) and or shortcut can respond with a hint. Hard for me to troubleshoot from this end and if there are subtle differences from our Canadian models and what we learned of them.

I'll add a welcome to you from Mississippi. I don't have one of the new ones, yet, but know some here who do and they will pitch in with their experience shortly.

Welcome to our world. Looking forward to meeting you. I moved from an 04 electraglyde to a 15 Wing. Will never go back after about 50 k miles in 2.5 years. Mine is mostly stock with highway pegs, some additional lights, and a Mustang seat. For the older version, the OEM seat for me is awe full. I don’t know about 5he new ones. Again, welcome and I doubt after you get used to it you will go back. I just rode my wife’s ne to us 2016 heritage from Texas and I said a prayer of thanks for me having a Wing. Man was I glad to get home.

Welcome Mark
I second it on changing out the Harley for a wing.

I just sold my 2014 Street glide last weekend 14k with 16000 miles it was mint and ran great however one ride on a 2005 wing changed all that.
I ride with the patriot guard all the guys in my sector have Harley for their ride.
Now their is one big yellow wing in the group why are those guys always behind me they cant seem to keep up with the 1800.
Anyway it was the right choice for you and welcome from Minnesota.
I now have two wings a 2005 and a 2010 both yellow please dont ask why. I guess just because I can.

Bought my 2018 DCT in February and today I turned 10,000 miles. All I have is a back rest and a cupholder and I’m good to go. The only other item I use on long trips is the air hawk seat cushion. Phenomenal riding bike.

There are some YouTube videos showing how to make it work. I've had luck by first, turning on my helmet, then turn on the bike and let it pair. In one of the videos, he says to not even pair your phone to the bike and I confirmed that works. I wish Android Auto would work....there are rumors it will, but so far...nothing..

Welcome to the forum Mark. I too am new to this forum and like you I tried to make my 2017 Harley RoadGlide Ultra more comfortable on long rides. Ohlins shocks and a Mustang seat helped but after a roundtrip from Alabama to D.C., I surrendered and bought a pre-owned Red 2012 Goldwing Comfort Audio Nav model. I still have the Harley but after riding the Goldwing for the past two weeks on my 170 mile daily commute, I've decide to sell the Harley. I' 67 years old and I find the Goldwing much easier to handle than the Harley. In May 2020 I plan to ride Route 66 to California then Join Run For The Wall ride from Ontario California to Washington, D.C. I can't image trying to do that on the Harley Roadglide. Enjoy the ride and welcome to the world of Goldwing.

Welcome to the world of GWs! In my opinion, they are the ultimate riding machines! Not sure about the mods you are talking about, but I hope the bike works out well for you. Best wishes!
