Hi Im JAy,
I tried starting my 82 GW interstate w/ a bad battery w/out trickle charging it 1st. I tried until the batt. died.
I bought a new batt. but the bike still wont start. all i get is a single click from around where the batt is located. perhaps the starter relay? PLEASE HELP!

make sure the new battery is fully charged, put it on the charger before asuming there is a problem with the relay

If you have a voltmeter, hook it up to the battery, should be around 12.5V to 12.8V at full charge. If not you want to charge it.

The next thing I would do would be to check and make sure all connections are good and tight.

You can also put a load test of sorts on the battery by hooking the volt meter up to the battery and have someone hit the start key. The voltage should drop down to about 9.5 volts as the engine turns over. If its just flat lining, and then the voltage recollects to 12.5, there is something wrong with the battery.
