that is truly sad to see. my friends wing caught fire while he was riding home from work a few years ago

Very sad to see. I always carry a fire extinguisher in all my vehicles, even on the bike.
It may not have helped in this case but more than once I have helped people put out fires on their vehicles. They are not that expensive.
