Upon doing research I am leaning toward a gl1200 over the gl1500 can you guys give me the pro's and my other consideration is that a gl1200 will give me about 50mpg? over a gl1500 at the 35-40 mpg any thoughts or suggestions? thanks again Chris

I never really noticed a big difference in fuel mileage between the 2 1200's I had and the 1500.Another thing to consider is that the 1500 had the longest run of the Wings to date(88-2000)so there are more parts and accessories available for them than the 1200's.The 1200 might be quicker, but the 1500 has more grunt and the 6 cyl is so smooth.A lot less shifting on the 1500 in the hilly country(unless you really want to). Both are nice bikes, but the parts getting a bit harder to get for the 1200 would probably be the deciding factor for me at the end of the day.

If you want the better bike. Get a 1500.(hard for me to say because I love my 1200)
1500:
1/Has cruise (I did love the cruise)
2/More leg room
3/I like the panniers lids over the 1200
4/It does have reverse
From my experience the difference in MPG's is very small. If you want loads of pulling power and don't like to rev it a bit. The 1500 is for you.
1200:
1/Likes to rev a bit. (sounds great on the pipe)
2/Is not as heavy as a 1500
I have not had problems in getting parts for the 1200 that I have needed yet. It had a shorter built time and is older. From what people have said: If you do your maintaince (oil change, belt, coolant, etc) you can't wear them out. I do love my 1200 but if you had a 1200 and a 1500 and one had to go. The 1200 would go.

I have had both and enjoy the 1500 more. I was always worried about the stator going out in the 1200.

If you plan on riding 2up I would suggest the 1500 as it does have more room and can haul butt!! I have both 1200 & 1500 and have found the 1500 to be a much smoother ride, but you will have to make the decision for your self.-------------------Hal

gixxer It appears the consensus is a 1500 & an Ole Fossil will agree. The biggest thing I can add is several of these guys that replied rode both models & that's one of the strongest testimonial one can have.

Doesn't matter what we say, you aren't going to buy one!
