Gen 5 2016 Erratic Cruise Control

I don't recall if this had come up before, so here it goes.
On my 2016 Wing, when I engage the Cruise Control at desired speed
the engine revs up dramatically. Then bumps down to an erroneous
speed. I quickly turn off the Cruise at the grip button to get things back
to normal. Has anyone experienced this, and where should I start to look
to resolve the issue?
I also recall several months ago that the micro switch on the clutch handle
did not disengage the cruise. However I believe I resolved that.
Much appreciated.

Heading out of the country. Will be monitoring any responses when I can. Going to be quite remote
for a few weeks.

Thanks,

While I can't help with your cruise issue, have a safe trip.
Well, I'm back. About 3 weeks out of the country and I'm going to start digging into this 2016 Cruise control issue.
No reply's in a month, so it's looking like I may be the first to tackle this strange issue.
I'm hesitant to take it to a dealer because I'm sure they have no idea where to look also.
I'm starting with simple things like the Cruise control relay. Then I'll likely dig further into the $300+ control module!
The speedometer is dead on with my GPS. I do however have a Henry Final drive and a Speedo-healer. I seem to remember 10 - 15 years ago that someone reported some strange performance issues and solved it by removing their Speedo-healer. I think that's a long shot, but I'm going to try a bit of everything.
I'll keep you all posted as to what I hopefully find.
Anyone who may had an issue like this... please respond.

Thanks,

Corventure Dave
Not sure if this is what you're talking about but I notice two things about my cruise control.

1. When I first engage the cruise control seems to lag (due to slack in the throttle cable) and then it will quickly rev up to get me back up to the selected speed. I noted that somewhere on the forum there is a post on how to fix the slack in the cable but I've never done it. I don't use cruise control very often.

2. The second issue I've noted it when I'm in a wind or buffeting from a large vehicle in front of me. When the gusts hit the bike it will increase speed at the time of the wind impact. I usually just turn it off when that happens.

I have a 2015 model GW. Good luck on your issues.

This is where the adjuster is located. You wll have to pull the paltci piece out of the wya to get to it. Loosen the lock nut and turn the barrel about 1 1/2 - 2 turns.
If you get it too tight it will accelerate when you hit the cruise. Trial and error.

A quick way to adjust this is to have engine warmed up and engine on. Start turning the barrel out until the idle starts to rise, then back off until it's at normal idle.
Appreciate the reply's, however...
My issue is "not" a lag in adjustment. I'm experienced with this as my 2005 had this and I needed to adjust it to correct.
My issue is that the engine rev's up dramatically, 1500+ rpm when I engage the cruise, then cuts off the cruise.
I'm presently tearing into it and removing plastic.
The bike is completely rideable. I'm looking for some possible electrical disconnect, relay or cable issues. Worst case I may have to just try replacing the cruise control module, $300+ part!!!
As I stated before, this just started to happen after 16,000+ flawless miles.

I’d be questioning the speed sensor, from what you wrote. I’d be looking for the test procedure on it. Well, if you could test all input sensors from the cruise module, that would help too!
Thanks for the comments.
Present situation:
I am learning how different the 2012 and newer Gen 5 top shelter is from my old 2005! Lot's was
changed, for sure.
Have got it torn down to exposing the air filter box. I'll be changing that filter. I have inspected and
tested about all I can find at this point. So I have ordered a new Cruise control unit. I checked out a
used on on Fleabay that was cheap. However I have had bad luck buying used parts on that site. So
it's worth it to me to fork up the price of a new one.
This is where I am at this point. I will post progress and results as they happen.

One word of caution. When you remove the bolts on the side of the plastic mounting bracket be careful. Show some rags underneath. Otherwise they may end up in the Honda Hole. don't ask how I know.
And yes, the shelter takes longer to get apart. More pieces and clips.

Thanks. However I am well aware of the holes to nowhere on these bikes.
Also a small magnetic stick tool comes in handy.
