Hello Fellow Wingnuts,
I just got back from a 4,000 mile Colorado trip which was truly awesome. Of course, my '81 GL1100 was filthy from bugs, dirt, and road gunk. I made the genius mistake of using oven cleaner on some of the front facing components to cut through some of the goo. For the most part, it worked really well. Unfortunately, I didn't take into account the affect it would have on my aluminum fork tubes. They now have a blackish mottled caste which is not attractive. Does anyone out there know if there's something I can do to bring them back to original condition? I'm thinking an abrasive is in order. Any thoughts?

OMG chaz! There should be something you can use to brighten the tubes again. I'm thinking a Flitz (?) power buff or similar. I'd be very leary of using an abrasive grit though (wear on the metal surface).
