On my 83 Goldwing the faring has on the right hand side low position a cigarette lighter. The left hand side low position is a radio. The upper positions on both sides have empty open storage places. Is that they way the bike came from the factory or what is supposed to go in these upper positions.

also, the battery stay dead if you leave it more then one day without running it. The guy i purchased it from said the battery is less then a year old and the analog clock drains the battery down. is it possible the clock is killing the battery?

thanks,

The cigarette lighter is not stock, it is an add on. The radio could be stock accessory if it's mounted vertically. Likely water proof cover with it too? The fairing pockets are standard storage areas in the Honda fairing. The left side should have a leather top with snaps, and the right side should have a lock on it operated by the key.
Batteries are funny - I had one which lasted less than a year. Now, with my battery tender, I get much longer service. Get hold of a multi-meter and check for shorts, beginning at the battery cable. Also, check if the cigarette lighter is wired to the accessory terminal.

thank you

Boy you guys are great!

I will check the water in the battery this weekend and i think the guy i leave it with has a battery tender. You are correct about the layout. I thought maybe it was something the previous owner put on becuase the lock and lid are loose and broken. The leather top is coming apart also but it is a 1983. Thanks again for your help. Hope i am not asking too many questions.

even if the cigarette lighter is directly wired to the battery there should be no load on the battery unless something is in the lighter or there is a break in the wire and its touching metal somewhere. the lighter on both my wings are directly wired to the battery and i have never had a problem with them
