My newly purchased '99 1500 produces a stronger exhaust odor than seems necessary. I suspect it may be running too rich. It has over 100,000 miles and was well maintained, but maybe new plugs or a tune up are in order. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick

Is this a constant or is when you first start up?

I ask because of the engine design, you will see and smell more if it sat on the kickstand .
This is why Honda, in part, wants you to put it on the centerstand.

If I didn't know it's exact history, I would definitely do a tune-up. After that, it may need adjustment. Even those who take good care of their babies don't always get the maintenance just right. I found my carbs were incorrectly assembled besides being nasty.

Thanks for your reply. I think it's fairly constant. Even after bike was warm and choke was off, my wife could smell it in the passenger seat.
