I would say it's possible as long as all the engine mounting bolts are in the same place and the drive line is identical.

short answer is "yes you can". but ( there that word :) ) the 1100 motors have electronic ignition and 1000 motors have points. the gearing for the 1100 is different so you may gain or loose rpm at say 60mph

Sure you can do it. I put a 2003 Aluminum V8 in a 1971 postal jeep. Just keep modifying until it works. Not a good investment, not an easy way to get around, but lots of fun....

the 1000 motor will bolt up with no mods but there are other issues to deal with

Medcoman if you are a GWRRA member I'd contact "Workbench" and see what Stu has to say about the "little things" detdrbuzzard mentioned. If you can shoe-horn a 350 Chevy into an Austin Mini, you can put a GL engine into a GL!
