Hi!

I just noticed today engine oil leak under my Goldwing. Anyone has an idea where its coming from and how to fix it by seeing these pictures
Tire Wheel Automotive tire Hood Automotive lighting

Water Automotive tire Hood Vehicle Bumper

. I don't want to go to mechanic for rip off.

Thanks

Looks like it is in the area of the oil filter/ water pump.
If the oil filter was changed was the mating surface cleaned prior to being replaced.
Bad seal in the water pump.

Oil filter is upper left (in pic) water pump it upper middle. To me it looks like a leaking Shift shaft seal.

I believe you're right I was looking at the forward view. Now that I viewed the first pic and looked at the orientation, I do agree with the shifter seal.

Is it do it yourself kind of stuff or expensive fix. Any manual or instruction I can find online how to do it. There are Youtube videos but not for Gl1500. Its coming in the middle of the engine.

I would clean that area good ~n~ clean, with degreaser, and wipe clean, and then go for a ride....After that keep your eye on the area and see if you can see fresh oil spots forming.. this way you'll know if it's really leak'n, or just a oil spot from past usage...

Could be the rubber "O" ring at the base of alternator, if you have had it out recently. Maybe valve cover gasket also. Probably shifter seal though.

THat’s a relative question, to me, yes it is. To some others no, it’s beyond their ability. If you start looking in that area, you may even find the seal hanging loosely on the shift shaft. I have pushed them back in before and gotten a year or so out of them before replacement. The factory service manual will list the procedure to replace it. A search for gl1500 shifter seal replacement may net you some results ( I haven’t searched for that myself). Good luck with your leak.

I pinched my o ring changing my oil. Worth a look there if it’s been changed lately.

That would be my first guess, also.
Be blessed, DT
