Hi all. I had the bolt recall work performed last week on my 2019 Goldwing Tour with manual transmission at the local Honda dealer. The transmission is no longer shifting smoothly, sometimes requiring extra force both up and down the shift range, with 1st gear often the most difficult. Has anyone else had this experience, and does anyone know if replacing the engine drive bolt involves doing anything to the manual transmission? They also replaced the oil with the Honda synthetic that I was previously using or I might suspect that.

From what I have read they have to take quite a bit of stuff apart to get to that bolt. I am gonna wait a year or two to let these mechanics do a whole bunch of this job. IMO Honda should just replace the damn motors and be glad noone has died due to this major f up. On that note, what if I just wait till the damn thing goes kaboom and hope I can ride it out...then a new motor might be more of an option?
Its a little bit of a pisser right???

I believe if you have gotten the recall notice and you refuse to have it done, think it's on you if something goes wrong for you chose not to have it done. Remember the notices and paperwork sent out are dated--Took the dealership 7hrs to do 2018 DCT Tour, they even sent me short video of everything off and the bolt being removed and sent it to my phone---

Highly irregular. Take bike back to dealer. My 2018 DCT nontour goldwing just had that done and it went very smoothly. I paid $109 for the air filter to be replaced and $40 for the oil Filter and DCT filter to be replaced. I provided the parts. Honda's warranty includes standard oil change without filters. But your bike should be running perfectly. Knoxville Honda does two bikes per month with people booking into Jan of 2026.

While I'm pretty sure a Honda dealership wouldn't do it, I had a friend of mine borrow one of my old Wings while his was in the shop. To repay me for the favor he did an oil change for me. When I went over to pick the bike up it shifted like an Allis Chalmers tractor. We went into his shop and started checking his inventory. He had mistakenly put non-JASO synthetic oil in the bike. We drained and refilled with the correct oil and it was fine. I'm just sayin' . . . .

I took my 2021 DCT Goldwing in to the dealer for the recall back in FEB. They call me and say that had a problem. It will start and then immediatley die and throws a code for ISG. They replaced the ISG but still does not run. It is April 27th today and still they don't have it running. Said they were trying to get Honda involved but that was a month ago.

I would become a squeaky wheel!

If you are still making payments and through Honda Finance, I would be calling them about “do I have to make payments if I don’t have my bike”
Maybe they can provide the match

- Honda of Seattle (Seattle, WA):
- Primarily known for Honda cars, but some Yelp reviews mention motorcycle services.https://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Honda+Service&find_loc=Seattle,+WA
- Less clear if they specialize in powersports or Goldwing repairs, so they’re a lower priority unless confirmed. Contact: (206) 382-8800.

### Key Considerations
  • Goldwing Expertise: The Honda Goldwing is a complex touring motorcycle with a unique flat-six engine (or four-cylinder in older models). Major engine repairs (e.g., rebuilds, valve adjustments, or transmission work) require technicians with specific Goldwing experience. Ask dealers directly about their track record with Goldwing repairs.
  • Factory-Trained Technicians: Honda Powerhouse Dealers, like those listed, have factory-trained staff and access to genuine Honda parts, which is critical for quality repairs.https://powersports.honda.com/powerhouse-dealers
  • Customer Reviews: Yelp reviews suggest Lake City and South Bound have solid reputations for powersports service, but none specifically mention Goldwing engine work. Check recent reviews or ask for references.https://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=honda+motorcycle+dealer&find_loc=Seattle,+WAhttps://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Honda+Service&find_loc=Seattle,+WA
  • Proximity: Lake City is the closest to central Seattle, followed by Tacoma Motorsports and South Bound. Everett is farther north but viable for those in north Seattle.
  • Warranty and Parts: Ensure the dealer uses OEM Honda parts and can maintain your warranty (if applicable). All listed dealers are Honda-authorized, so this shouldn’t be an issue.https://powersports.honda.com/powerhouse-dealers

### Recommendation
Lake City Powersports is the best choice for a major Goldwing engine repair in the Seattle area due to its central location, long-standing Honda expertise, and focus on powersports. Call (206) 364-1372 to confirm their experience with Goldwing engine repairs and schedule a consultation. If you’re closer to Tacoma or prefer a dealer with a broader regional reputation, South Bound Motorsports or Tacoma Motorsports are strong alternatives, but verify their Goldwing-specific expertise.

### Next Steps
  • Contact Lake City Powersports first to discuss your repair needs and confirm their Goldwing experience.
  • If unsure, call all three top dealers (Lake City, South Bound, Tacoma) to compare estimates, technician expertise, and turnaround time.
  • Ask for a detailed quote, including labor rates, parts costs, and any diagnostic fees.
  • Check recent customer reviews on Yelp or Google for updated feedback on their service quality.

I can attest that on this list Everett Powersports is one of the best if not the best dealership I have ever visited. I have been there twice. First in 2017 when they installed my first set of new tires on my 2015. Then in 2023 when Mark and I were riding out west. I picked up a nail and they installed a new rear. Mark had messed and misjudged the tread on his tires. We showed up unannounced and they had us rolling before lunch with reasonable prices. Bout forum friend Ron Robertson was a big proponent of EPS. So am I.
