I have never used one on any of my motorcycles nor do any of the people I ride with. Use to have one in my Corvette and Z28.

I know of one. He uses radar and laser detector. But he does tend to ride really fast. He still got tickets too.

I won't mention a name............but he did hit a pelican once.

1. from my experience, cops tend not to mess with bikes unless it is really bad, they might flash their lights but that is about it
2. from a cop friend, their policy was, if you stop someone on speed and they have a detector, they never get a warning, it is always a ticket

and from me having a CDL it was a big no no anyways

I used an Escort 8500 x50 (hidden away in the right pocket) until I sold the GL1800 last year. Haven't installed it on the Spyder yet. It has a rig that flashes a blue LED when it detects. I put the LED where I can see it looking forward, but shielded from visible to the side.

I used one on my ST 1300. When I got the wing, I did not bother to put it on. When on long trips, I usually have the trailer on. I keep the speed at 70 because of the trailer tires. That is usually right at or below the speed limit anyway. The speed limit on the interstate highways in UT is 80 mph. That is plenty fast enough for me. Secondary roads are 65. I can go 70 and the LEO's do not even blink an eye. That is a comfortable speed on the wing.

Do any of you currently use or know a fellow rider who uses a radar detector?
With 75-80 MPH speed limits on the slabs, and the beauty of the Southwest...........well

HELL NO!!!!! :ROFLMAO:

I used the Escort when I bought my new Concours in 2003. Prior to that I had been overseas for ten years and remembered quite well getting a ticket for just a few miles over ( I started riding in 73). Once I discovered the 9 mph over "safety net" I ditched the Escort cause that's where about I ride anyways. LEOs are going to Lazer and all my detector is going to do is tell me I got tagged....

When the radar detector goes off, you might as well just get ready to pull over. If the detector sees radar, the radar saw you.
Not true at all. I will get a blip here and there several miles before the radar user can see me. You have to know how to use and understand what the detector is telling you. For Lidar (lazer), the detector is just confirmation they got you. I also almost always see the police before they are close enough to get a reading on me. I also don't ride fast enough to be the one they want to pull over. I let someone else be the rabbit. But there are barney fife types out there that will write a ticket for 1 over, hence the reason for the detector.

I use a radar detector in all my vehicles, including placed in the left cubby on the Wing. It is plugged into the AUX connector, and beeps over the speakers. I never use them to listen to music, so it's a good setup for me, and has worked very well over the years. I also use a special app that uses the Waze API to monitor for police reports, police aircraft, and hazards within a customizable radius, and alerts based on my speed vs. the posted limit by absolute numbers or by percentage.

I'm not so sure on that. I had one in the 90's in my civic and it could detect cops over the hills and I would slow down before cresting the hill and sure enough the cops would be sitting there. That was before they could ever see me. But who knows with today's technology, they can probably detect over hills now :)
