Good day fellow Wingers,
It seems I'm the newest "new guy" around here for the moment. As a brief intro before I start begging for knowledge, I have been a rider since the mid 1970s and owned my fair share of bikes. All Japanese, mostly Hondas. My current stable includes a 1979 CBX (of which I am the 1st and 3rd owner
), a 2002 CBR954RR (my first "modern" sport bike = wow!) and my 2006 Goldwing w/audio (the reason I'm here
).
While gallivanting around our great 48 earlier this month, I managed to set the poor girl down while riding through Yellowstone. Now this was a very low speed "crash" and I stepped off unscathed and the Wing went entirely without mechanical damage. But I don't need to tell you how sick it made me to look at all that scuffed and cracked plastic.
I know they say it's "when and not if" for this sort of thing, but it still takes the wind out of your sails. I had to try very hard not to let that ruin the rest of the trip home to MI.
Well now I'm home and assessing damage and looking to put things right. First of all, thank goodness for those crash bars! The RH set got pretty ground up, but saved a lot of very pricey looking parts. Between getting larger parts painted and replacing others, I think I've got every thing fixed in my mind except for the mirrors.
Here's the begging for knowledge and wisdom part. I managed to crack both the housing (painted part) and the reflective "glass" on both sides. No issue on the housings; I found those online for about $35 each. But it seems that Honda doesn't sell the actual reflective portion of the mirror on it's own.
So that leaves me to either buy two new mirror assemblies at $130/ea or (insert your solution here)???
I can't be the first guy on earth to crack a mirror on their GL, right? Apparently not, because I'm currently trying to outgun another bidder on ebay for this set of stock glass, and it's getting pricey in a hurry! So what's the solution guys and gals?
Anyways, sorry for the long winded post and thanks a million in advance.
Don
