I have a 2001 1800 and would like to flush the cooling system. I have seen a flush kit years ago but cannot seem to find it anywhere. are there any suggestions on how to flush the entire system, and put in new antifreeze?
Rowdy, welcome to the forums. You'll have to remove the left side cover, and the lower front fairing, and then remove the drain bolt and sealing washer (it's located just above the oil filter). Then remove the overflow bottle and drain it. Now is a good time to rinse the bottle out too. Re-install in the reverse order of disassembly.
Fill the system through the rad top (bike on center stand and level) up to the filler neck. Put the rad cap back on and run the engin in neutral at idle for 2-3 minutes. give the throttle a few cracks to assist bleeding air from the system. Allow the bike to cool before removing the cap (never open a hot rad cap!). Fill the radiator up to the filler neck again. Repeat as necessary). Then fill the reserve tank/overflo bottle to the upper level on the bottle dipstick. Put the tupperware back on and you're good to go. Remember to use a new sealing washer with the drain plug.
