Just a quick question is it ok to use a battery tender on a gel battery?

I do. I never heard that you couldn't. All the GL1500 rider that I know that have put the Compufire Alternators in have switched to the sealed batteries and use a trickle charger during the winter.

Used one on my 98 GL1500 which had a gel battery for 8 years without a problem

A battery tender has such a slow rate of charege that it should be fine on any 12v battery. I've used one for years, but don't have a gel battery either. I would consider one if and when my battery goes pffft.

Seems to work just fine on mine. Starts everytime.

not sure, but isn't charging a gel battery at a slower rate preferred over a high amp fast charge?

Yes the Gel cell battery is ok with a battery tender. Also it is better to charge any battery at a slow rate if you have the time, especially a sealed battery which is not vented.
