Hi everyone. I am not a GW owner yet but really trying to be. I developed a motorcycle fever about 6 weeks ago and cant seem to shake it. I rode 750's and such about 25 years ago but nothing since. I really want a bike that I can get out on the highway for a while and be comfortable. Plus I am in my early 50's so this old body cant take much abuse. I have been looking at some older models since I dont have a very big bank roll and have a few questions. What would be considered high mileage for a mid 90's model and at what age/mileage do things start to go bad? Are there any particulars I should be on the watch for? I really want one but so afraid of getting screwed since I will only have one chance to get it right. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer and I look forward to hangin out here fore a while. See ya from Farmers Branch, Tx.

hello and welcome jwill41, if you are looking at a mid '90s wing it would be a 1500. i got my '93 back in august with 38.475 miles on it and i get laughed at for having such low milage. the only thing i have done is put air in the tires, a better seat, an oil change and some chrome. as for my 1200, it had 42,500 when i got it last fall. did a tuneup, oil change and installed a driverbackrest and trunk relocation bracket. put a left side antenna on bceause i like the look of two antenna and had dunlop e-3 tires installed

Welcome to the forum, jwill41!
I, too, am old enough to want to be comfortable, which is why I went with the Goldwing, after my last bike being a 750 automatic, also 25 or so years ago. I went with an older Wing for pretty much the same reason...$$$$. Found a sweet '81 Interstate just north of you in Lake Dallas, with 52,000 on it. I've done nothing but put a new front tire on it, and ride with a smile! Amazingly enough, I found it in the Dallas newspaper "for sale" ads!
Most Wings that have been well cared for, will last quite a while, regardless of mileage, imho.
Good luck with the search. We might just pass each other some day! I'm in Duncanville, and pass thru FB/Carrollton all the time.

I have an '89 1500 with 45,000 miles, and an '83 with 62,000 miles. The '89 is in top condition, mainly regular oil & filter changes, fluids and tires; all preventative maintenance. The '83 required brake work, front fork seals and tach cable for repairs, in addition to regular fluid & tire changes. Pretty reliable, trouble-free riding.
