The AMA protects your right to ride. We fight bike bans, land closures, health-care discrimination against motorcyclists, and more. Plus, the AMA is committed to providing the best benefits possible for its members to save them time and money. We are also dedicated to amateur racing, providing amateur competitors and their families, friends and fans with exciting andenjoyable racing events that create lifelong memories. We also publish American Motorcyclist magazine, which focuses on the accomplishments of our members in all forms of riding, whether it's racing, cross-country touring or trail riding. The AMA is dedicated to all these things, and more. After all, we love to ride.

I know I am late to the party but here is my two cents. I have been a member of the AMA for 24 years now. Used to use my discount for my prescription glasses. That was before glasses got just flat out expensive. When I did use it, it saved my a bunch, to the point of more than $100.00. More then paid for my membership.
I have never, knock on wood, had to use the roadside assistance. The main reason I continue my membership is I am a fan of what they do for motorcyclist, both on and off road, rights.
I am also a member of ABATE of IL. for the same reason.

I'm a member. An organization that promotes and protects motorcyclists rights and privileges and sponsors good riding habits is worth being a part of.

AMA purpose

A wise young man once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". I hope you all know who that was. If not, ask here and I will tell you.

The point is, joining the AMA should be done as an act of support for all motorcycling, not to avail oneself of whatever perks there are. If they have something available that you can use, go for it, but that should not be the primary reason for joining.

Hey hanson... I am retired so any day of the week works for me. (well, almost any day. depends on what my wife has for me to do) Wednesday is usually a good day for me.
Geez, you retired guys are making me jealous (I think) at least I don't get the "lists" (yet) of honey-do's.
Steve F here, in good 'ol WE-GO.

I just thought I'd post something in this forlorn thread.

I've been an AMA member for about 6 years recently and about 5 years 25 years before that due to off road racing AMA sanctioned events.

Recently I've become involved in land use issues in So Cal and the AMA has stepped up HUGE to help out.

And their roadside assistance works quite well, I used it to have my truck towed to the dealer for repair and they were very easy to deal with, not AAA but good.
