Air intake screens

Going to tackle changing the air filter myself. Saw these air intake screens on Wingstuff and wondered if anyone has ever installed them. They are not supposed to restrict airflow. I wonder how long the rubber o-rings will last with the heat? Haven't had problems with mice, just bugs.

I hope that Kerry @edmKC chimes in here. He used the old wire mesh screen from the old air filter element to fashion air intake screens rather than buy some. I wish I would’ve seen his post before I changed my filter so I could have done that! I think it’s a great idea.

For bugs I would use typical window aluminum screen and zip- tied.

Personally Lee, I don't think I would us window screen. I know for our trade that the difference between bug & bird (that's our reference) screen is quite significant when it comes to restriction. If we install bug screen the size of the intake louver grows a lot.

Think of this. On a windy day, you open your front screen door. It's either hard to open or rips out of your hand springing the hinge.

Several folks have used those with good luck in the past. Us cheap skates reuse the wire mesh from an old air filter as Maui states. Good luck either way.

Using the screen from the old filter keeps rodents out, and that is the intention. I duct tapped mine onto the snout, and didn't look back.

I installed these screens on mine and they work great. Hopefully you are using a OEM air filter as the aftermarket ones will pass dirt and dust.
The rubber O-Rings are basically an added item because the 4 tabs bend and form around the lip of the inlet tubes an hold great. I actually installed these screens on mine a couple of months after I replaced the air filter through the shelter pockets after I took them out. But the O-rings are not really in the heat as cool air is always blowing on them.

For bugs I would use typical window aluminum screen and zip- tied.
This is not a good idea. I will cause a loss of airflow.

Here's what I do to all my vehicles. Take fine mesh rabbit wire, clip it to size, leaving the tips to be bent over the plastic intake. This is on my Toyota sienna, but it works the same on any similar air intake. No more acorns or critters in the airbox... and it cost just a few bucks.
