Air compressor problem

i was trying to top off my 2005 GL 1800 tires. I decided to go with the max recommended of 36 and 41. No problem with the front tire. Rear tire just wouldn't take more than 38 pounds. I decided my gauge was faulty. Found another gauge, same result. I have a small Campbell Hausfeld compressor that I bought used a couple of years ago. It shows it is holding about 80 pounds of air in the tank. Anyone else had problems gassing up their rear tire. Oh BTW, finally got the bike on the centerstand. Jeepers. I even used a board on the back tire and barely got it up. The bike, that is.

I have had similar issues in the past. In the air chuck from the compressor there is a pin that presses in on the valve stem Schrader valve. Sometimes there is just enough wear or tolerance stack up to prevent the valve from opening. Try a different air chuck or you can pull the guts out of the valve stem and replace it, or you can push a little harder while holding on the valve stem.

my little pancake compressor has two gauges, one for the tank and one for the hose, because it has a pressure regulator for the hose so you can limit the pressure down the hose to run air nailers and the like, if you turn the regulator down... one could limit the pressure down to a point it wont air up a tire.

Dsurley, that was the problem. I am slowly learning how the darn thing works. I thought that when I felt resistance on the regulator dial that it was on all the way. I was amazed today to see that it just keeps adding pressure as you turn it. I dialed it up to about 55 pounds and gassed up my rear tire to 41 pounds. Also, got the bike up on the centerstand again. This time was much easier. I guess because I knew for sure it would get up there! LOL.

glad I could help.... the regulator on mine will let you change the hose pressure from 0 to 135psi (which is the max pressure of the machine)

I often use my little pancake compressor if I just need to top up my motorcycle tires. Bigger jobs I fire up my main compressor (60 gallon, 5hp, 2stage compressor) have to wait to long on it just for small jobs. Got the little one when I bought a couple of nail guns when building our previous house.
